Controls and your first hunt

Controls

D-Pad: Move
A: Attack
B: Palette slot 1
Mode: Palette slot 2
Sleep: Swap palette
A + B: Photon Blast
Function: Menu / pause

Change palette actions from Menu → Palette.

First hunt

Choose a class and create its separate save.
Visit the Shop, Bank and Guild on Pioneer 2.
Talk to the Guide and select Forest.
Use the Teleporter to travel there.
Clear each room, collect drops and defeat the boss.
Bank valuable gear before taking on harder areas.

Choose a Hunter

Four classes, four separate characters

Each class keeps its own level, equipment, inventory, records and MAG. Switching class does not overwrite another hunter.

A close-range all-rounder with strong melee weapons and support techniques.

The Hunt

Fight, level and gear up

Combat happens in real time. Chain three-hit attacks, fire from range, cast techniques and charge your MAG's Photon Blast.

Prepare before you beam down

Services

Shop: consumables, materials and permanent upgrades
Bank: safe storage for weapons and meseta
Guild: thirteen objective-based quests
Teleporter: unlocked areas and difficulty levels

What persists

Level, EXP, MAG growth and technique mastery
Banked weapons and banked meseta
Permanent stat upgrades and unlocked difficulties
Carried inventory after quitting normally

If you die without a Scape Doll, you return to Pioneer 2 and lose the current floor and any uncollected drops. Your character progress and carried inventory remain.

Two-Player Co-Op

Online

Host or join

Choose the EU or US server, browse public rooms, share a private code or use auto-join. Named rooms and lobby chat help you find the right partner.

Local

Pair nearby

Two nearby VMU Pros connect directly. Both players choose Local at the multiplayer NPC; no internet connection or router is required.

Shared rules

Both players share the dungeon and boss fight
Each hunter earns EXP from the hits they land
Either player can collect drops from the floor
Telepipes open a portal both players can use
Moon Atomizers revive a nearby teammate
Some co-op gates require both players to hold a floor switch
A full party wipe returns both hunters to Pioneer 2

Version 2.8

RAcaseal, traps and new quests

RAcaseal joins as the fourth class. She cannot cast techniques, but always sees hidden traps and can deploy Damage, Freeze and Confuse Traps from her action palette.

Dreamcast Connection

Raise your MAG away from the console

MAG Lab imports compatible PSO Version 2 MAG data, lets you feed and evolve it, and writes the updated MAG back to the Dreamcast save. The MAG Lab guide covers VMU Pro and Pebble transfers.
